Father Carmen Giuliano, S.A., who served as minister general of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement for four years, died March 7 at Holy Name Community in Ringwood, N.J. He was 90.

Father Giuliano served as minister general, 1981-1985. He was a parochial vicar at Our Lady of Rosary parish, Yonkers, 1996-1997; drug abuse counselor at Little Sisters of the Assumption, East Harlem, 1991-1996; alcoholism counselor at St. Christopher’s Inn, Graymoor, Garrison, 1968-1970; and vicar of St. Paul Friary and director of brothers and professor of fifth year theology, Graymoor, 1961-1967.

He also served in Saranac Lake and Maryland.

Born in Waterbury, Conn., he entered the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement in 1953 and professed final vows in 1958. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1961.

He received a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Connecticut and a master’s in education from Fordham University and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Law from Manhattan College.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Antonioli.

A Funeral Mass was offered March 11 at St. Paul’s Friary Chapel, followed by burial in the Friars’ cemetery at Graymoor.
