Father Eugene J. Quigley, S.J., who served the Jesuits' New York Province in financial administration and planning for more than 30 years, died Oct. 6 at Murray-Weigel Hall, the Jesuit infirmary in the Bronx. He was 83. He was treasurer of the province, 1971-1986; director of province financial planning, 1968-1971; assistant provincial treasurer and auditor of financial records of province houses, 1963-1968; auditor of financial records of province residences, 1962-1963; and treasurer of Xavier High School, 1959-1962. From 1988 to 1995 he was auditor of temporal administration of province houses. He served at Jogues Retreat in Cornwall and at parishes in the area, 1986-1989. He also served at Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish in Ardsley, 1992-1994, and did pastoral work at local parishes while in residence at Murray-Weigel Hall, 1995-2000. Born in Newark, N.J., he entered the Jesuits at St. Andrew-on-Hudson, Poughkeepsie, in 1942 and professed vows in 1944. He studied for the priesthood at Woodstock College in Maryland and was ordained at Fordham University Church in 1955. He held a master's degree in business administration from New York University. A Funeral Mass was scheduled to be offered Oct. 10 in the chapel at Murray-Weigel Hall, with burial in the Jesuit Cemetery at Auriesville.
