Father Frederick McKeever, O.F.M., who was a pastor in two parishes in the archdiocese, died Sept. 22 at his family's home in Valley Cottage. He was 79. He was parochial vicar and then pastor of St. Stephen of Hungary parish in Manhattan, 1967-1973. He also was pastor of St. Francis Xavier parish in Narrowsburg for a year after that. He later served in parish and congregational posts in New Jersey. Born in Manhattan, he entered the Franciscans of the Holy Name Province in 1948 and professed final vows in 1952. He was ordained in 1954 in Washington, D.C. He studied for the priesthood at Cathedral Preparatory School in Manhattan and the Franciscans' St. Joseph's Seminary in Callicoon. He held a bachelor's degree, a master's degree and a doctorate from St. Bonaventure University in Olean, where he was an assistant professor of philosophy, 1955-1963. He is survived by a brother, Joseph, and two sisters, Joan Leonard and Sister Damian Marie McKeever, S.C. A Funeral Mass was offered on Sept. 26 at St. Anthony's Church in Butler, N.J., with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, also in Butler.
