Father George Cotter, M.M.

Father George Cotter, M.M., who was a missioner in Tanzania for 12 years, died Sept. 6 at St. Teresa Residence, a Maryknoll mission house in Ossining. He was 88.

Father Cotter served in Tanzania, 1960-1972. He also served in Guatemala, worked with the Vincentian Fathers in Ethiopia and wrote several books.

In 1977, he established the Mission Project Service, which was a liaison to groups that assist missionaries.

Born in Orange, N.J., he entered the Maryknoll Fathers in 1950, professed final vows in 1959 and was ordained in 1960. His stepbrother, Tom Kearney, survives him.

A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 12 in Our Lady of Apostles Chapel, Maryknoll. Burial was in Maryknoll Society Cemetery.
