Father George E. Kabiri, a parochial vicar at St. Charles Borromeo parish in Harlem, died unexpectedly Oct. 16 at his residence there. He was 44.

Father Kabiri, who was found dead in his room that morning, died of a brain hemorrhage and heart disease, according to the office of the New York City Medical Examiner.

Cardinal Egan offered the Funeral Mass Oct. 21 at St. Charles Borromeo Church.

A priest of the Diocese of Owari, Nigeria, Father Kabiri was attending Fordham University and studying for a master's degree in religious education. He was in the process of becoming incardinated as a priest of the New York Archdiocese.

He had been serving at St. Charles since January 2003, and was at Sacred Heart of Jesus on West 51st Street, Manhattan, for a year before that.
