Father George M. Mikolajczyk, M.M.

Father George M. Mikolajczyk, M.M., who served in parishes and agencies in the archdiocese, died Sept. 29 at St. Teresa's Residence in Ossining. He was 82.

After returning in 1969 from serving for 14 years as a Maryknoll missioner in Tanzania, Father Mikolajczyk served at St. Columba's parish, 1973-1991, and as chaplain at Pius XII School, 1969-1972, both in Chester, and then at St. John the Evangelist parish in Goshen, 1991-1996.

In 1991, Father Mikolajczyk studied the Eastern liturgy and then received permission from the Vatican Congregation for the Oriental Churches to celebrate Mass in both the Latin and Eastern rites.

In 1996, he served at Holy Rosary Church in Greenwood Lake for a few months, then served at St. Christopher's parish on Staten Island, 1996-1998.

Born in Riverhead, he entered Maryknoll in 1945, studied for the priesthood at Maryknoll Seminary in Ossining and was ordained in 1955.

He is survived by a brother, Martin Mickaliger.

A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 2 at Queen of Apostles Chapel in Ossining, with burial at Maryknoll Cemetery.
