Father Gerard McDonald, O.F.M.

Father Gerard McDonald, O.F.M., who served for 35 years as a parochial vicar at St. Francis of Assisi in Manhattan, died Feb. 11 at St. Anthony's Friary in Butler, N.J. He was 90. Father McDonald served at St. Francis of Assisi from 1953 until 1955, and again from 1962 until 1995, when he retired. He also was a teacher in Buffalo, pastor of a parish in Georgia and chaplain at a hospital in Florida. Born in Palo Alto, Pa., he entered the Franciscans of Holy Name Province in 1939 and professed final vows in 1943. He was ordained in 1945. He held bachelor's and master's degrees from St. Bonaventure University in Olean. A Funeral Mass was offered Feb. 15 at St. Anthony's Church in Butler, with burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery there.
