Father Gordon A. Murphy, O.F.M., who served in the archdiocese in Narrowsburg, died Oct. 4 at New England Medical Center in Boston. He was 83. He was a parochial vicar at St. Francis Xavier parish in Narrowsburg, 1982-1983. He also served from 1956 to 1971 at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, including his last two years there as dean of the School of Business. Born in Binghamton, he entered the Franciscans of Holy Name Province in 1951 and professed final vows in 1955. He was ordained a priest later that year. He is survived by a sister, Kathryn P. Murphy. A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 8 in the chapel of St. Anthony Shrine in Boston, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury, Mass.
