Father Henrique Schulterbrandt, C.Ss.R.

Father Henrique Schulterbrandt, C.Ss.R., who was known for much of his religious life as “Brother De,” died June 16 in St. Croix, Virgin Islands, where he was stationed. He was 72.

As a religious brother, he served at St. Cecilia’s parish in East Harlem, 1976-1978, and in 1987 he served for six months at Most Holy Redeemer parish, also in Manhattan, before beginning studies for the priesthood at St. Alphonsus Seminary in Suffield, Conn.

At the time of his death, he was serving at St. Patrick’s Church in Frederiksted, St. Croix.

Born in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, he entered the Redemptorists in 1960. Taking the religious name of Brother De Montfort, he made first vows in 1960 and final vows in 1964. He was ordained a priest in 1994.

A Funeral Mass was offered June 23 at St. Patrick’s Church, with burial in the Redemptorist Cemetery there.
