Father Mark O’Connor, S.A.

Father Mark O’Connor, S.A., who was assigned to retreat ministry at the Spiritual Center at Graymoor in Garrison for 19 years, died July 14 at Cabrini of Westchester Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry. He was 87.

Father O’Connor served in retreat ministry from 1994 until his retirement in 2013.

He was the business and circulation manager of the Graymoor publications “The Lamp” and “Ecumenical Trends,” 1968-1977.

He served as ecumenical secretary of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, 1984-1988, and also served in Massachusetts and North Carolina.

Born in Boston, he served in the U.S. Navy before entering the Friars of the Atonement in 1956. He professed final vows in 1964 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1984.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University and a master’s from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

His sister, Dorothy, survives him. A Funeral Mass was offered July 20 in St. Paul’s Friary Chapel at Graymoor, followed by burial in the friars’ cemetery.
