Father Philip Blaine, O.F.M. Conv.

Father Philip Blaine, O.F.M. Conv., who served for 23 years at St. Francis Friary on Staten Island, died Feb. 5 at Our Lady of the Angels Care Center in Enfield, Conn. He was 86.

At St. Francis Friary, Father Blaine was director of the St. Francis Center for Spirituality, 1997-2014, and he also was stationed there while teaching in the spiritual development program for the archdiocese, 1985-1991.

Father Blaine also served in Rensselaer, Brazil and Italy, and he was elected to serve as assistant general and secretary general of the missions for the Franciscan Friars Conventual.

Born on Staten Island, he served in the U.S. Navy and worked for IBM before entering the Franciscan Friars Conventual novitiate in 1956. He professed final vows in 1960 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1963.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 9 at Holy Family Church, Staten Island. Burial followed in St. Peter Cemetery, Staten Island.
