Father Robert F. Nee, O.F.M.

Father Robert F. Nee, O.F.M., former pastor of St. George-St. Francis parish in Jeffersonville, died Jan. 19 at Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains, N.J. He was 76.

Father Nee served at St. George-St. Francis from 1998 to 2002. He also was parochial vicar at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Manhattan, 1990-1998. Before that, he had served as pastor of a parish in Ringwood, N.J.

At the time of his death he had been residing at Holy Name Friary in Ringwood.

He served in the missions in Brazil from 1963 to 1977. He also served as a hospital chaplain in Olean and in New Haven, Conn. He was chaplain of St. Anthony Shrine in Boston, ministering to the homeless there.

Born in Boston, he entered the Order of Friars Minor in 1955, professed final vows as a Franciscan in 1959 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1962. He held a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from St. Bonaventure University in Allegany.

He is survived by his brothers David, Richard and Edward, and by his sisters, Sister Judith A Nee, S.N.D., and Patricia.

A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 25 at St. Anthony Shrine in Boston. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury, Mass.
