Father Thomas Kallumady

Father Thomas Kallumady, pastor of St. John the Evangelist and Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish in White Plains since 2015, died March 9. He was 70.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 20, at 10 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Church.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, March 19, from 4 to 7:30 p.m., at St. John the Evangelist. A Mass of the Holy Eucharist will be offered at 7:30 p.m.

Father Kallumady also served as pastor of Holy Innocents, Manhattan, 2007-2013, and St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral, 2005-2007, where he was administrator, 2002-2005.

Father Kallumady served as administrator of St. John the Martyr and St. John Nepomucene, Manhattan, 2015, and St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, Roosevelt Island, 2014-2015. He was parochial vicar of St. John the Evangelist, Beacon, 2000-2002, and Sacred Heart, Staten Island, 1997-2000.

Born in Kerala, India, Father Kallumady studied for the priesthood in Thuruthy, India, where he was ordained in 1973. He was incardinated into the archdiocese in 2000.

He earned bachelor’s degrees in education and economics, and a master’s in theology from St. Albert’s College, Ranchi, India. He received a master’s in English literature from Utkal University in Orissa, India.

In 1988, he came to the United States to continue his studies while stationed at a parish in Brooklyn. He received a master’s in religious education and a doctorate in education administration, both from Fordham University.

Burial will take place in India.
