Cardinal Edward Egan, who died March 5, 2015, was remembered at an evening concert held in his honor April 6 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

The gathering included music by members of the Metropolitan Opera: soprano Janai Brugger, and tenors Matthew Polenzani and Stephen Costello. Also lifting their voices in song were members of the cathedral choir conducted by Dr. Jennifer Pascual, director of music at St. Patrick’s.

A portrait of Cardinal Egan graced the sanctuary for the concert titled “In the Holiness of Truth,” his episcopal motto.

The concert was preceded by Evening Prayer led by Msgr. Ritchie.

Cardinal Egan served as Archbishop of New York from 2000 to 2009 and then was the first Archbishop Emeritus.
