“Place in thy heart one drop of the Precious Blood of Jesus and fear nothing.” (Pope Pius IX)
Holy Mother Church dedicates the month of July to the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ, and like a good mother she helps her children become profoundly aware of the power of the Precious Blood of Jesus. In the Old Testament, the Jewish people would sprinkle the lintel of their doors with the blood of goats or lambs for protection against the angel of death. In the New Testament, God gives humanity to His Beloved Son, Jesus, for protection.
As we commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, it brought to mind a short, but powerful prayer, a plea to God for protection, which I heard prayed many years ago by a Protestant friend, and one which I have since prayed daily. “Cover me Lord with Your Most Precious Blood.”
Catholic or Protestant, all humanity is redeemed by the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ. Come, Lord Jesus, come! “Cover me with Your Most Precious Blood.”
