Ill-Advised Protest

Posted

The editorial, “Missed Opportunity for Student Protesters” (CNY, May 25), concerning the University of Notre Dame graduates who walked out of Vice President Pence’s address failed to comment on the stated reasons for the protest. Among the points of disagreement were, to quote the related news article in CNY, “policies Pence supported as Indiana’s governor, including a bill to restrict abortion and a religious freedom law opponents said was aimed at the gay community.”

The editorial’s advice urging the protesters to listen to opposing views was commendable. What is not commendable is for 100 or so graduates of a supposedly Catholic university to take issue with someone supporting basic Church teachings.
