In Remembrance of 9/11

In commemoration of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States and New York City, Our Lady of Pity Church, 1616 Richmond Ave., Staten Island, will host the 16th annual “Eve of Solemn Remembrance” Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m.

The gathering, sponsored by the Notre Dame Club of Staten Island, begins at 7 p.m. with music by Maura Molloy, followed by Mass at 7:30 p.m. Msgr. Edmund Whalen, principal of Msgr. Farrell High School on Staten Island and chaplain of the Notre Dame Club, will serve as principal celebrant and homilist.

All Staten Islanders are invited to participate, or to stop by the church from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. that day for reflection, prayer and spiritual healing. Information: Joseph P. Delaney, director, Notre Dame Club of Staten Island, (718) 967-9825.

“The Father Mychal Judge 9/11 Walk of Remembrance” will be held Sunday, Sept. 10, in Manhattan in honor of those lost on 9/11. This year’s walk will also honor NYPD Det. Steven McDonald, who died this past January.

The walk traces the footsteps of Father Judge, a Franciscan priest, in the spirit of prayer and remembrance. Father Judge, a New York City Fire Department chaplain, was killed while serving at the World Trade Center on 9/11.

The celebration begins at 9 a.m. with the Rosary followed by Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 135 W. 31st St. All are invited to walk the route beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Engine 1 Ladder 24 firehouse, 142 W. 31st St., and concluding around 2:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church on Barclay Street in Lower Manhattan.
