A candlelight vigil for persecuted Christians May 26 began at Holy Innocents Church in Manhattan before the 40 participants processed to Herald Square and Times Square, where they prayed and sang hymns. The march took place the same day 29 Coptic Christians, traveling to pray at a monastery, were shot and killed when gunmen stopped their bus south of Cairo, Egypt. ISIS claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack.
