Irene Kollar

Irene Kollar, director of religious education and pastoral associate at Our Lady of Fatima in Scarsdale for 21 years, died March 14. She was 74.

Ms. Kollar served at Our Lady of Fatima, 1994-2015, where she was a pioneer in creating programs for children on the autism spectrum. She and the people of the parish were awarded the March 1999 Religious Education Excellence Award from the National Association of Parish Catechetical Directors. The parish was cited for a close relationship between the parish school and religious education program, an emphasis on children learning by doing and a program for children with special needs.

A registered nurse, Ms. Kollar earlier served in parish ministry for many years at Sacred Heart, Dobbs Ferry.

Her four children, Adam, Suk Hee, Glenn and Sheila, and nine grandchildren survive her. Her husband, Deacon John “Jack” Kollar, died last year.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated March 18 at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson.
