Local Prayer Vigil for Life Set for Jan. 22 at Cathedral

Posted

A Prayer Vigil for Life with the Sisters of Life and the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal will be offered at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

The gathering marks the 46th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion across the country.

A Holy Hour will be offered at 6:30 p.m. with music led by Brother Malachy, C.F.R., and the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal.

Auxiliary Bishop Peter Byrne will celebrate the Mass that follows at 7:30 p.m.

The homilist will be Father Richard Veras, director of pastoral formation at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie. Father Veras also serves as chaplain for Communion and Liberation in the archdiocese, and is a contributor to Magnificat magazine.

The Sisters of Life will be stationed outside the cathedral inviting people to come inside to pray, and will provide music for the Mass.

For those who cannot be present at the national March for Life in Washington, D.C., this event serves as a local pilgrimage to build up the culture of life in the nation.

It is open to all parishioners, families, parish groups and youth groups.
