Marathon Blessing at Cathedral Mass Nov. 4

Posted

The 11th annual Marathon Runners Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Saturday, Nov. 4, at 5:30 p.m. Participants in this year’s New York City Marathon who wish to receive a blessing are invited to attend.

The celebrant will be Msgr. Robert T. Ritchie, the rector of St Patrick’s Cathedral. He will invite all runners in the next day’s marathon to join him in the sanctuary for a special blessing at the end of Mass.

The first Marathon Mass was offered in 2007 in response to the large volume of requests for blessings in the days leading up to the marathon. In recent years, hundreds of marathoners have come forward for the blessing.
