Msgr. Farrell, Salesian Competing for CHSAA State Titles

Msgr. Farrell and Salesian high schools will be playing for CHSAA state championships after winning their respective New York City CHSAA titles March 4 at Fordham University.

Farrell (22-5) defeated Kennedy Catholic (25-3), 59-46, for the New York City CHSAA Class A crown behind 25 points from Nicholas Corbett.

Farrell will play upstate champion Canisius (25-2) on Saturday, March 12, at Villa Maria College in Buffalo.

Salesian (14-12) captured its first New York City CHSAA championship since 2011 with a 67-43 victory over Sacred Heart (14-13). Xavier Tellez finished with 16 point, and Alex Romans and Anthony Mitchell added 12 points apiece for Salesian.

Salesian will meet upstate champion Nichols (10-17) for the New York State CHSAA Class B title at Villa Maria College on Saturday, March 12.

The CHSAA Class AA state playoffs continue Wednesday with semifinal games at St. John’s University. Xaverian (16-11), which beat archdiocesan champion Cardinal Hayes (19-8) in overtime for its quarterfinal win, meets Archbishop Molloy (22-6) at 6 p.m., followed by Christ the King (20-8) against Bishop Loughlin (20-7).

The winners will meet for the state title at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at Fordham University.
