Msgr. Farrell High School’s Terry Adams became the only CHSAA wrestler to win a state title this season when he beat Rush Henrietta’s Jayden Scott in a 3-2 decision, in Division I’s 106-pound class at the New York state wrestling championships at the Times Union Center in Albany Feb. 23-24.

The junior, seeded fourth, won all four of his bouts by decision, including a 13-10 win over top seed Matt Griffin of Jamesville Dewitt-Christian Brothers Academy in a semifinal.

At 138 pounds, Iona Prep’s Colin Realbuto took third place by defeating Garrett Bauer of Jamesville Dewitt-CBA, 9-4. Realbuto, a senior, reached the semifinals before suffering a 3-2 loss to eventual state champ Chris Gomez of Patchogue Medford High School.

Adams’ Msgr. Farrell teammates Jimmy Ryan (120 pounds) and Vin Ndokaj (160), and Archbishop Stepinac’s Kevin Barry (182), all lost first-round matches and were eliminated in the consolation rounds.

Msgr. Farrell placed 23rd in the team standings with 24 points. Wantagh High School of Nassau County claimed the team title with 86.5 points.

CHSAA, including schools from inside and outside the archdiocese, was ninth in the section standings with 75 points. Section 11 (Suffolk County) won the section crown with 245 pounds.
