Rayné Jeanette Plettell-Kenny, the mother of Father Rufus Kenny, parochial vicar of St. Joseph’s parish in Somers, died Feb. 3 in Lethbridge, Alberta. She was 59.

She had been caring for her mother, Dorothy Plettell, at the time of her death.

Ms. Plettell-Kenny was director of information and privacy at the Veterans Review and Appeal Board, where she had worked for more than 30 years.

Born in Lethbridge, she graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a degree in English literature.

Her family remembered her as a woman of great faith, who was also a lover of words and had a great appreciation for art, music and dance.

Other survivors include her husband, Morgan; three other children, Rory, Dana and Lorelei; two grandchildren; and three siblings, Don Plettell, Vanessa Plettell-Chevrier and Carolyn Burton.

Father Kenny offered the Funeral Mass Feb. 15 at St. Dunston’s Basilica in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery in Charlottetown.

Father Kenny celebrated a Memorial Mass at St. Joseph’s Church March 23.
