‘Rebuild My Church’

Posted

In the 13th century, while the long period of construction proceeded in Paris on the magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral, a young, carefree man in Italy was struggling to elevate his life. A nearby small church was in ruins and abandoned. Francis of Assisi entered San Damiano and fell down before the crucifix. Christ crucified moved His lips and commanded, “Francis, go repair my house.” St. Francis would repair this church and his Franciscans would rebuild Christ’s broken Church.

We all watched on television as the flames engulfed Notre Dame Cathedral. Currently, Christ’s Church is once again mired in scandals. Is Christ commanding us all, through Notre Dame’s flames, to “Rebuild My Church”?
