Auxiliary Bishop Gerald T. Walsh, vicar for clergy, will celebrate the annual Red Mass for the judiciary, attorneys, and members of law enforcement and their families on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 92 S. Lexington Ave. in White Plains. The Mass will begin at 6 p.m.

The Red Mass, which is open to the public, is sponsored by the Catholic Lawyers’ Guild of the Archdiocese of New York. It is a solemn ceremony asking God to guide the legal profession “toward the administration of justice.”

The Red Mass dates back to Europe in the 13th century. In the United States, it was instituted by the Catholic Lawyers’ Guild in the New York Archdiocese in 1928.
