Sister Aiko Oyabu, M.M., who served as a missioner to Japan for 20 years, died March 11 at Maryknoll Sisters Center in Maryknoll. She was 84.

Sister Aiko was in Japan, 1972-1983 and 1995-2004. She also served in Bolivia and the Philippines. She worked in the development office at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining, 1992-1994, and returned to the center after her retirement in 2006.

Born in Kyoto, Japan, Sister Aiko entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1963 and professed final vows in 1972. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Seisen Women’s College in Japan.

Her brother, Magoshiro Oyabu, and her sister, Tomiko Nakajima, survive her.

A Funeral Mass was offered March 15 in the Main Chapel at Maryknoll Sisters Center. Burial was in Maryknoll Sisters Cemetery.
