Sister Ann Johnston, O.P., who served in the archdiocese as a hospital chaplain, religious educator and teacher, died Oct. 19 at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis. She was 73.

She was a chaplain at Misericordia Hospital in the Bronx and also at hospitals on Long Island, in Connecticut and in St. Louis from 1981 until her retirement in 2003. She was coordinator of religious education at Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish in Middletown and in Missouri, 1973-1981, and she taught at St. Helena's School, the Bronx, 1955-1958.

Born in St. Louis, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1953 and professed final vows in 1960. She held a bachelor's degree in elementary education from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill and a master's degree in religious studies from St. Louis University.

She is survived by two sisters, Nancy Giessmann and Marie Jacqueline O'Rourke.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 27 at Dominican Convent in Sparkill, with burial at St. Agnes Cemetery there.
