Sister Barbara Eirich, O.S.F., founder and former executive director of Community Resource Center for the Developmentally Disabled in the Bronx, died Sept. 21 at the Wartburg Skilled Care Facility in Mount Vernon. She was 88.

Sister Barbara, a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities, was executive director of the Community Resource Center for the Developmentally Disabled, 1976-1999. She was a social worker for the Human Development Organization of Catholic Charities, 1971-1976; staff nurse in the orthopedic unit of St. Agnes Hospital, White Plains, 1959-1971; and teacher at Holy Name School, New Rochelle, 1958-1959.

She served for two terms on the leadership team of the Sisters of St. Francis, Hastings-on-Hudson, 1992-1999, and also served in Connecticut.

Born in White Plains, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis, Hastings-on-Hudson, in 1956 and professed final vows in 1962.

She earned a nursing diploma from Grasslands Hospital School of Nursing, Valhalla; a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry; and a master’s in social work from Fordham University.

A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 1 at St. Catherine’s Church, Pelham. Burial was at Rural Cemetery, North White Plains.
