Sister Barbara Moore, O.P.

Sister Barbara Moore, O.P., who was a principal and teacher in the archdiocese and in New Jersey, died Oct. 9 at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh. She was 93.

She was principal of Annunciation School in Crestwood, 1952-1953, and taught at St Thomas School, Pleasantville, 1943-1946; Dominican Day School in Larchmont, 1941-1943; and Casa San Jose in Newburgh, 1939-1941.

She also taught in North Carolina and in New Jersey, where she had served in Toms River from 1969 until her retirement in 2007. She had resided at the Center of Hope Residential Care facility in Newburgh since earlier this year.

Born in New York City, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh in 1935 and professed final vows in 1943. She held a bachelor's degree in education and a master's in biology from Villanova University.

A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 14 at the Chapel of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, with burial in the sisters' cemetery.
