Sister Beatrice Brennan, R.S.C.J., who served in Egypt for 13 years, died Feb. 24 in Albany. She was 97.

Sister Beatrice was an English teacher in Egypt, 1974-1987.

She served at Encore Community Center, Manhattan, 1998-2002; Little Sisters of the Assumption, East Harlem, 1987-2002; and Manhattanville College, 1963-1968,

She was mistress general of the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Manhattan, 1955-1960.

She also served in Albany, Washington, D.C., Connecticut and Michigan.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1941 and professed final vows in 1949.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart and a master’s in educational psychology from Fordham University. She received a certificate of graduate study in religious education from Providence College as well as certificates in pastoral counseling from Iona College and teaching English literature from the University of Detroit.

Sister Beatrice donated her body to medical research. A Memorial Mass was offered April 1 at the Teresian House in Albany. Burial was in Kenwood Cemetery in Albany.
