Sister Bernadette Higa, M.M.

Sister Bernadette Higa, M.M., a native of Hawaii who served in the state for 23 years, died March 12 at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining. She was 93.

She was in Hawaii, 1997-2006, 1984-1994, 1978-1979 and 1973-1976. She served at Maryknoll in Ossining, and in Missouri, Taiwan and Bangladesh.

Born in Kaupakalua, she entered Maryknoll in 1951 and professed final vows 1959.

She earned her R.N. from St. Francis Hospital of Nursing, Honolulu, and held a bachelor’s degree in general studies from Chaminade College, Honolulu.

Her sisters, Sister Mary Louise, M.M., Theodora and Mildred, and her brother, Harry, survive her. Sister Bernadette will be cremated. A Memorial Mass will be offered at a later date.
