Sister Bernadette Stives, F.M.S.C.

Sister Bernadette Stives, F.M.S.C., who was a librarian and food service manager, died Dec. 31 at Mount St. Francis in Peekskill. She was 80.

She served at Franciscan High School in Mohegan Lake, 1981-1991; The Assisium high school in Manhattan, 1980-1981; St. Patrick’s, Yorktown Heights, 1972-1974; Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, 1963-1972, and Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Home in the Bronx, 1952-1963, where she was a group mother. She also served in New Jersey.

Most recently she was in residence at Mount St. Francis, the motherhouse, where she served as sacristan, librarian and bursar.

Born in Linden, N.J., she entered the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart in Peekskill in 1949 and professed final vows in 1956.

She is survived by five brothers, Raymond, Edward, Robert, Donald and James, and a sister, Eloise.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 3 in the chapel at Mount St. Francis, with burial in the congregation’s cemetery.
