Sister Christine Greene, O.P.

Sister Christine Greene, O.P., who served as principal of St. Columba School in Hopewell Junction, died Feb. 16 at the motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Dominic in Blauvelt. She was 85.
She was principal of St. Columba’s, Hopewell Junction, 1978-1985, and taught there, 1969-1970. She also taught at St. Catharine’s, Blauvelt, 1976-1977, and in the Bronx at Christ the King, 1967-1969, and Holy Spirit, 1955-1967.
She served in pastoral ministry at Sacred Heart parish in Suffern, 1995-2007. She aided senior citizens of Dutchess County, 1993-1995, and at St. Martin de Porres parish, Poughkeepsie, 1989-1990, and the homebound and infirm at St. Columba’s parish, Hopewell Junction, 1985-1989.
She also served in Rhode Island and Florida.
Born in the Bronx, she entered the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt in 1952 and professed final vows in 1957. She was previously known as Sister M. Thomas.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Dominican College in Orangeburg and a master’s in education from Fordham University, the Bronx.
She retired to Marian Woods in Hartsdale in 2007 and returned to the motherhouse in Blauvelt last year.
She is survived by a brother, Thomas, and a sister, Mary Berry.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 19 in the chapel of St. Dominic’s Convent in Blauvelt. Burial was at St. Dominic’s Convent Cemetery, Blauvelt.
