Sister Doris Ann Pagano, S.C., who was an elementary school teacher for many years in New York, and a missionary in Guatemala, died March 9 at Allen Hospital of New York Presbyterian in Manhattan. She was 80.

She taught at Holy Name School in Manhattan, 1959-1970. She also taught at St. Raymond School in the Bronx, 1960-1966. In addition, Sister Doris Ann did missionary work in Guatemala in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, after studying at a language school in Bolivia for a year ended in 1971. Her Guatemala service included parish ministry and serving as a pastoral minister.

In 2012, Sister Doris Ann retired and moved to the Convent of Mary the Queen in Yonkers. In 2014, she was among the first sisters to form a retirement community in Kittay House in the Bronx. She led a Friday afternoon Scripture-sharing group that reflected on the upcoming Sunday Gospel.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Sisters of Charity in 1956 and made final vows in 1964. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the College of Mount Saint Vincent and a master’s in elementary education from Fordham University.

A Funeral Mass was offered March 15 at the Mount Saint Vincent Convent Assembly Room. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery in Yonkers.
