Sister Eilish White, R.S.H.M., a Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for 60 years, died Nov. 2. She was 79.

She worked with the Hispanic immigrant community in Immokalee, Fla., 2001-2002. She lived in Mutare, Zimbabwe, serving in parish ministry in Dangamvura, 1994-1997. She taught in France, Virginia and Brooklyn at various times, 1958-2013.

At the time of her death, she lived at Marymount Convent in Tarrytown.

Born in Dublin, Ireland, she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in 1956 and made final vows in 1963. She was formerly known as Sister Gemma.

She earned a master’s degree in education from Fordham University and a bachelor’s in history and education from Marymount College, Tarrytown.

She is survived by her sisters, Anne Kelly and Gemma Dunne, and her brothers, Frank and Matthew.

A Funeral Mass was held Nov. 9 at Marymount Convent in Tarrytown. Burial was at Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
