Sister Eleanor Fitzgerald, S.C.

Sister Eleanor Fitzgerald, S.C., who taught for nearly 30 years at St. Margaret School in the Bronx and St. Mary’s School in Wappingers Falls, died Sept. 13 at Kittay House in the Bronx. She was 85.

Sister Eleanor taught at St. Margaret, 1989-2004. After her retirement, she continued to volunteer there until 2012. She also taught at St. Mary’s in Wappingers Falls, 1967-1981; Sacred Heart, Hartsdale, 1982-1989; and St. Joseph, Yonkers, 1959-1967.

She served at Elizabeth Seton House of Prayer, Scarsdale, 1981-1982.

Born in New York City, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1956 and made final vows in 1964. She was formerly known as Sister Mary Maurice.

She held a bachelor’s degree in education from the College of Mount St. Vincent.

She is survived by her brothers, Maurice and Timothy, and sister, Carol Callahan.

A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 22 at the Mount St. Vincent Convent Assembly Room. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery in Yonkers.
