Sister Elizabeth Kennedy, C.N.D.

Sister Elizabeth Kennedy, C.N.D., who taught in archdiocesan schools, died Sept. 27 at Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton, Conn. She was 92.

She taught French and Latin and later remedial reading at various schools, including Villa Maria Academy in the Bronx, 1958-1961; and St. Jean Baptiste, 1965-1967 and 1976-1978; St. Columba’s, 1971-1976; and Cathedral High School 1978-1991, all in Manhattan.

She also served at schools in New Jersey, Vermont and Connecticut and served her religious community for several years in Canada. Following her retirement, she devoted her life to prayer and service at St. Jean Baptiste parish, where she had grown up.

Born in New York City, she entered the Congregation of Notre Dame after graduating from high school, taking the name Sister St. Margaret Miriam. She professed first vows in 1940 and final vows in 1946. She held a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University and a master’s from New York University.

A sister, Margaret Kenney, survives her.

A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 1 at Villa Notre Dame in Wilton. Burial followed at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Danbury, Conn.
