Sister Frances Cardillo, O.S.F.

Sister Frances Cardillo, O.S.F., a biology professor at Manhattan College for 18 years, died on May 9 at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse in Allegany. She was 82.

She taught at Manhattan College, 1976-1994. She took a sabbatical in 1985 to participate in cancer cell research at Wistar Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. Sister Frances also was a biology instructor at Ladycliff College, Highland Falls, 1967-1974.

Born in Rome, N.Y., she entered the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany in 1954 and professed final vows in 1961.

She received a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s in biology, both from St. Rose College, Albany. She earned a doctorate in biology from St. Bonaventure University, Olean.

A Funeral Mass was offered on May 12 in the chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany. Burial followed in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, also in Allegany.
