Sister Frederick Mary Depew, C.S.JB., the provincial treasurer of the Sisters of St. John the Baptist since 2015, died May 23 at Mount St. John Convent in Purchase. She was 76.

She was superior of four convents in the archdiocese: Providence Rest and St. Dominic’s, both in the Bronx; St. John Villa, Staten Island; and Mount St. John, Purchase.

She served as an LPN and X-ray technician at Providence Rest Nursing Home in the 1970s, and later worked in the social services department. She served at Immaculate Heart novitiate, the Bronx, 1989-1994.

On Oct. 16, 2016, Sister Frederick Mary was in St. Peter’s Square in Rome as Pope Francis canonized Father Alfonso Maria Fusco, the founder of the Sisters of St. John the Baptist.

Born in Newburgh, she entered the Sisters of St. John the Baptist in 1963 and made final vows in 1969. She held a bachelor’s degree in philosophy/sociology from Fordham University.

Her brother, John, survives her. A Funeral Mass was offered May 29 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, West Harrison. Burial was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.
