Sister Gilmary Walsh, O.P., who served as a nurse and teacher in the archdiocese, died Aug. 3 in St. Martin de Porres Infirmary in Blauvelt. She was 69.

She was a guidance counselor at St. Pius V High School in the Bronx, 1994-2001, and taught at Christ the King School, the Bronx, 1982-1989, and in Jamaica, West Indies, 1962-1966.

She served as a licensed practical nurse at St. Dominic's Convent Infirmary at Blauvelt, 1967-1975, and in the Bronx at Kingsbridge Heights Nursing Home, 1977-1982; House of the Holy Comforter, 1976-1977; and Morrisania Hospital, 1975-1976.

She was receptionist at Siena House, the Bronx, 1989-1993. She later assisted at the gift shop at St. Dominic's Convent and was recreation director at St. Martin de Porres Infirmary before poor health led her to retire there in 2004.

Born in the Bronx, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Blauvelt in 1959 and made final vows in 1967.

She is survived by a sister, Bridget Mullins, and two brothers, John and James.

A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 6 at St. Dominic's Convent. Burial was in the convent cemetery.
