Sister Janet Capone, O.P.

Sister Máire McQuillan, R.S.H.M, president of Marymount College in Tarrytown for nine years, died Aug. 5 at Marymount Convent in Tarrytown. She was 97.

Sister Máire was president of Marymount, 1960-1969, and was a teacher there, 1959-1960 and 1947-1949. She served at Marymount Secondary School, Tarrytown, as principal, 1952-1959, and teacher, 1950-1952 and 1940-1947. She also served in Sag Harbor and France.

Born in Drogheda, Ireland, Sister Máire entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in 1938 and professed final vows in 1945.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Marymount College, Tarrytown; a master’s in French from McGill University, Montreal; and a doctorate in French from Laval University, Quebec City.

Her brothers, Finlan, Colum and Oliver McQuillan, and her sister, Una O’Connell, survive her.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 10 in Marymount Convent. Burial followed in Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
