Sister Jean Marie Noonan, R.D.C.

Sister Jean Marie Noonan, R.D.C., who served as a teacher and a nurse in the archdiocese, died March 11 at St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry. She was 94.

She taught at John F. Kennedy Catholic High School, Somers; Good Counsel Academy High School, White Plains, 1986-1992; Cardinal Spellman High School, the Bronx, 1985-1986; Resurrection High School, Rye, 1980-1981; and Preston High School, the Bronx, 1968-1978.

She also taught at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, Elmsford; St. Frances de Chantal, the Bronx, 1958-1968 and 1953-1956; St. Lawrence O’Toole, Brewster, 1956-1958; and St. Anthony’s, West Harrison.

After years of teaching, she earned an RN degree and served at Westchester Medical Center, 1981-1985, and the Maryknoll Sisters Convent.

She participated in the Maryknoll Mission program as a Maryknoll associate sister, and traveled to South America in 1978-1979 to work with other Maryknollers.

Born in Pleasantville, she graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Katonah, and entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion in 1949 and made final vows in 1955. She was formerly known as Sister Mary Michael.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Good Counsel College, White Plains, and a master’s in chemistry from St. Joseph’s College, West Hartford, Conn.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated March 14 in Divine Compassion Chapel, White Plains. Interment was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.
