Sister Jeanne Marie Harla, C.R., assistant general for the Congregation of the Sisters of the Resurrection for 10 years, died Oct. 1. She was 84.

Sister Jeanne Marie had served as assistant general in Rome since 2010. She was provincial superior of the New York Province, 1992-2002; general councilor in Rome, 1973-1986; and a member of the International Commission for the Renewal of the Constitutions in Rome, 1971-1973.

She also served in Rome as vice postulator for the cause of beatification of foundress, Mother Celine Borzecka.

Sister Jeanne Marie was at the Mother Celine House of Studies, Harrison, as superior, 1968-1970, and professor of philosophy, 1961-1968; and taught at St. Casimir School, Yonkers, 1958-1961.

Born in Yonkers, she entered the Sisters of the Resurrection in 1950 and professed final vows in 1959.

She earned her bachelor’s degree, master’s and doctorate from Fordham University, the Bronx.

Her brother, Leo, and her sister, Rose Marie Fuchila, survive her.

A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 3 in Rome with Father Paul Voisin, C.R., superior general of the Fathers of the Resurrection, serving as celebrant.

Burial was in the tomb of the congregation at Prima Porta Cemetery in Rome.
