Sister Josefa Medina, R.S.H.M.

Sister Josefa Medina, R.S.H.M., who worked in schools in Colombia for much of her religious life, died Oct. 7 at Marymount Convent in Tarrytown. She was 92.

She served in Colombia at the Marymount Schools in Barranquilla, 1954-1959, and Bogotà, 1959-1970. From 1970 to 1980 she cared for elderly abandoned women at a shelter in Florencia.

Returning to the United States, she helped care for older sisters at Marymount Convent in Tarrytown from 1980 until 1995, when she retired from full-time ministry.

Born in Tenza, Colombia, she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Tarrytown in 1952 and professed final vows at Marymount in Bogotà in 1959.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 10 at Marymount Convent Chapel. Burial was at Mount Calvary Cemetery in White Plains.
