Sister Joseph Rosaire McKevitt, S.C., who taught classical languages at the College of Mount St. Vincent in the Bronx for 26 years, died Sept. 9 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Yonkers. She was 87.

She taught classical languages at Mount St. Vincent, where she became an associate professor, from 1966 to 1992. She taught at Elizabeth Seton Academy in the Bronx, 1947-1960, and was secretary to the superior general, 1960-1966.

After retiring from teaching, she served in the registrar’s office at Mount St. Vincent and was sacristan at Immaculate Conception Chapel at the motherhouse. Since January she had lived at Mary the Queen Convent in Yonkers.

Born in New York City, she entered the Sisters of Charity in 1946 and professed final vows in 1950. She held a bachelor’s degree in English from Mount St. Vincent, a master’s degree in classics from Fordham University and a doctorate in classics from New York University.

A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 12 at Immaculate Conception Chapel, with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Yonkers.
