Sister Loretta Egan, O.S.F.

Sister Loretta Egan, O.S.F., who was an educator in Westchester and on Staten Island, died Feb. 21 at the Wartburg Adult Care Community in Mount Vernon. She was 102.

She volunteered part time at St. Eugene’s in Yonkers until her retirement in 2004.

She taught at St. Aloysius School at Mount Loretto on Staten Island, 1959-1980. She earlier taught at St. Clare’s Academy, Hastings-on-Hudson; Immaculate Conception School, Tuckahoe; and St. Catherine’s, Pelham.

She also taught in Astoria, Queens, and in public school.

Born in New York City, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1943 and professed final vows in 1949.

A Funeral Mass was offered Feb. 27 at St. Eugene’s Church. Burial was at Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island.
