Sister M. Sheila Reilly, I.H.M.

Sister M. Sheila Reilly, I.H.M., who taught at Immaculata High School in Manhattan during an almost 50-year career as an educator, died Dec. 24 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton, Pa. She was 95.

She served at Immaculata from 1954 to 1963. She also taught at schools in Scranton, where she also was a principal, and in Baltimore, Md., and served as a guidance counselor at two high schools on Long Island.

Following her teaching career she was coordinator of volunteers at hospices in northeast Pennsylvania and a counselor at a maternity shelter in Carbondale, Pa.

More recently she served as archivist working on an oral history of her congregation.

Born in Pittsburgh, she entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1932, professing her final vows in 1938. She held a bachelor’s degree in education from Marywood College in Scranton and a master’s in sociology from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 31 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton. Burial was in St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pa.
