Sister Margaret Burns, O.S.F.

Sister Margaret Burns, O.S.F., who served as a nurse in several facilities in the archdiocese, died Dec. 16 at Lawrence Hospital, Bronxville. She was 74.

She was affiliated with the Visiting Nurse Service of Westchester, 2007-2012. She was a clinical specialist in mental health at St. Francis hospital, Poughkeepsie, 1996-2007. She also served at the Mission of the Immaculate Virgin, Staten Island, 1965-1981.

Sister Margaret served as a member of the General Council of the Sisters of St. Francis of Hastings. She was a board member of St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie, and Nazareth Nursery, Manhattan.

She was also moderator of the motherhouse, 1996-2002, and a member of the task group that formed the new community, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities, in 2004.

Born in Beacon, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis at Hastings-on-Hudson in 1962. She professed final vows in 1970.

Her sisters Sandra McCluskey and Ellen Der Boghossian and her brother Thomas survive her. A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 20 at St. Joachim’s Church, Beacon, followed by burial in the parish cemetery.
