Sister Margaret Mary McGrath, R.S.M.

Sister Margaret Mary McGrath, R.S.M., who taught for 20 years at Transfiguration School in Tarrytown and also taught at many other schools in the archdiocese, died Aug. 31 at McAuley Hall in Watchung, N.J. She was 98.

She taught at Transfiguration, 1977-1997. She also taught at Sacred Heart, Yonkers, 1998-2001; Sacred Heart, Dobbs Ferry, 1970-1977; St. Simon Stock, the Bronx, 1967-1969; Sacred Heart, Mount Vernon, 1958-1967; St. Francis Xavier, the Bronx, 1951-1953; Commander Shea, Manhattan, 1949-1951 and 1956-1957; St. Catherine of Genoa, Manhattan, 1947-1949; St. Cecilia, Manhattan, 1942-1947; Regina Angelorum, Manhattan, 1941-1942; and Institute of Mercy, Manhattan, 1937-1941.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in1934 and professed final vows in 1941. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University.

Her sister, Julia Kirby, and her brother, James, survive her.

A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 6 in Marian Woods Chapel, Hartsdale. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.
